1. Supreme Court reduces punishment of DTU student found guilty of using unfair means in examination

We do not find that the finding of the High Court that the petitioner was guilty of malpractice needs to be interfered, we find that the punishment awarded is disproportionate to the act found to be proved against the petitioner. Therefore, in the fact and circumstances of the case, we reduce the punishment imposed by the High Court upon the petitioner.


2. The women lawyers of Nilgiris have been demanding toilet in court complex for 25 years

The women lawyers say that initially, their male colleagues and male members of the local Bar Association would also make representations to the Principal District Judge and the Madras High Court Registrar, asking for adequate infrastructure facilities for themselves and for the women lawyers.


3. Kerala High Court grants bail to two men accused of assaulting woman Advocate Commissioner

The Kerala High Court recently granted bail to the two persons who allegedly restrained and assaulted a woman advocate commissioner during a local inspection that she was conducting on the orders passed by a munsiff court.


4. BCI signs MoU with Bar Council and Law Society of England & Wales to allow exchange programme for lawyers

The following are the salient features of the MoU:

The BCI will choose young Indian lawyers to avail "opportunities of training and learning in international law firms, good law offices and in English courts."

The Law Society/Bar Council will recommend solicitors and barristers from the UK to be sent to India for training and learning for a maximum period of 90 days. BCI shall endeavour to provide these lawyers the opportunity to work with a designated Senior Advocate or at a reputed law firm.

Lawyers from the UK will also be given the opportunity to watch proceedings in courts and tribunals as well as international arbitration and mediation.

Indian lawyers will get the opportunity to get in-person training in international law firms, English courts, international arbitration centres and other forums.

The expenses for the same will be borne by the lawyers themselves. BCI has said that it will sponsor meritorious/deserving candidates who are unable to afford the same.

It is made clear that the lawyers recommended by the BCI for such exchange programme shall have no right to practice in the United Kingdom in terms of the MoU. Similarly, lawyers sent from the UK will not have a right to practice in India.


5. Bombay High Court refuses interim relief to Atom Berg in suit against Luker Electric alleging design infringement of ceiling fans

The Bombay High Court on Monday refused to grant any interim relief to Atom Berg Technologies Pvt. Ltd. in their suit alleging design infringement and passing off against Luker Electric Technologies Pvt. Ltd


6. Indian Council of Arbitration held the Second Edition of "Arbitrating Indo-UK Commercial Disputes" Conference in London [Press Release]

The Indian Council of Arbitration (ICA) on June 5, in partnership with Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce & Industry (FICCI), held the Second Edition of Arbitrating Indo-UK Commercial Disputes Conference in London.Building on the success of the previous edition, the conference aims to provide valuable insights into the resolution of commercial disputes between India and the United Kingdom.
